Hello, I would like to book an English consultation with Dr. Chu-Chun Liang. My main concern is [varicose veins / leg swelling / a dialysis access problem]. My preferred location is [clinic name], and I am available on [date or time]. Thank you.

ENGLISH

Living in Taiwan with leg swelling, visible varicose veins or a dialysis access problem can feel stressful—especially when you are unsure whether you can explain the symptoms clearly in English.

You do not need perfect medical English. Tell me what changed, when it started and what worries you most. We can then work through the problem step by step and discuss the tests and treatment options in clear language.

  • When booking, state your main concern, preferred location and available date. You do not need to translate your full medical history.
  • Bring a medication list, previous reports, useful photos and a brief symptom timeline to the first visit.
  • Do not wait for a routine appointment if you have sudden one-sided leg swelling, chest pain, shortness of breath or a suddenly absent dialysis access thrill.

1.What problems can be assessed?

  • Bulging or twisted varicose veins.
  • Leg aching, heaviness, cramps, itching, or ankle and lower-leg swelling.
  • Skin discoloration, hardening or a slow-healing wound near the ankle.
  • Sudden swelling or pain in one leg, which may require urgent assessment for a blood clot or another acute problem.
  • A dialysis fistula with a weaker or absent thrill, difficult cannulation, poor flow or prolonged bleeding after dialysis.
  • Visible veins are only part of the picture. Symptoms, skin changes and standing ultrasound findings should be considered together.

2.What should I write when booking?

  • Copy this message: Hello, I would like to book an English consultation with Dr. Chu-Chun Liang. My main concern is [varicose veins / leg swelling / a dialysis access problem]. My preferred location is [clinic name], and I am available on [date or time]. Thank you.
  • You only need to add your main concern, preferred location and available time. A complete translated medical history is not required at this stage.
  • PW Vascular Center LINE: @pw0277099197; telephone: 02-7709-9197, press 1.
  • PW Clinic Da’an LINE: @pwclinic2024; toll-free telephone: 0800-529-471.

3.What should I bring?

  • Your ARC, passport or another form of identification, plus your National Health Insurance card if applicable.
  • A medication list or clear photographs of your medication packaging.
  • Previous ultrasound, imaging, operation or dialysis access records.
  • Photographs that show progression and a brief symptom timeline.
  • Note whether symptoms become worse after standing, sitting, exercise or a long flight.

4.What happens during the first visit?

  • I will first listen to the concern that matters most to you, examine the leg or dialysis access, and decide whether ultrasound is helpful.
  • For varicose veins, standing ultrasound locates reflux and assesses the main superficial veins. Treatment should not be selected from visible veins alone.
  • For dialysis access, the thrill, flow, cannulation, bleeding time and ultrasound are considered together. A narrowing seen on ultrasound does not automatically mean that a procedure is required.

5.When should I seek urgent care?

  • Sudden swelling or pain in one leg.
  • Chest pain, shortness of breath or coughing up blood.
  • A dialysis access thrill that suddenly disappears.
  • A cold, pale or severely painful hand.
  • Heavy bleeding that does not stop with firm pressure.
  • Fever, spreading redness or pus from the access or a wound.
